Luth-AR Palm Handguard® Installation

  1. Insert the barrel into the upper receiver.
  2. Apply a light amount of moly grease to the threads of the upper receiver.
  3. Slide the Palm Handguard®  barrel nut over the barrel until it contacts the upper receiver threads.
  4. Hand tighten the barrel nut until snug against the upper receiver.
  5. Using an 10″ adjustable wrench or a 1-3/16″ open end wrench, tighten the barrel nut to the upper receiver to approximately 35 foot pounds of torque.
  6. Slide the Palm Handguard® over the barrel nut. Ensure the Picatinny rail is aligned with the Picatinny rail on the upper receiver and fully seated.
  7. Apply a small amount of thread lock to the four 10/32 socket head cap screws on the bottom rib of the Palm Handguard®.
  8. Tighten the cap screws by alternately tightening each cap screw a small amount to distribute equal pressure until the Palm Handguard® is completely and equally tight. The cap screws should be torqued to approximately 35-40 inch pounds.
  9. There are two retaining machine screws on the lower portion of the handguard that screw into the barrel-nut groove (just above the 4 rib screws). Apply a small amount of thread lock to the two screws and tighten. This will assist in retaining the handguard from slipping forward during use.
